A Word About … Palms
On that very first Palm Sunday,
The one with the adoring crowd,
And the donkey ride for Him,
The sight must have been something to behold.

Once an editor asked me if I usually wrote about people I had actually met and things I had actually seen… and I said, “Yes.”
And he said, “Oh. Well, I was just wondering because if you only write about people you have actually met and things you have actually seen, sooner or later you will run out of interesting things to write.”
And I said, “That depends.”
And he said, ”Oh?”
And I said, “That depends on who you meet … and what you see when you meet them.”
And he said… “Oh.”
We didn’t cut our own Christmas tree this year.
No stopping by the woods on a snowy evening.
No Currier and Ives snap shots;
No selfies of she and I, standing in some snowdrift,
Cold as a Minnesota winter, and surrounded by green forest;
No sock hats, or gloves or … the search for a perfect Christmas tree.
A FRIEND CALLED one afternoon to tell us that fruit trees were on sale at a local store. Randee and I had been in the market for bare-root fruit trees because we wanted to plant an orchard on some property we own in northern California. With great eagerness, we searched out the bargain-priced trees. They were outside, in the back. One look told us why they were on sale.
I’m so excited to announce the publication of a book I’ve been working on for a long, long time. Here’s a brief ‘back-of-the-book’ blurb that will help you understand what it’s about. Just released, and available online at Amazon.com! This isn’t a very long book, because it’s about life. And everyone knows … life is short. God, of…
For the last several years now, since reading “My One Word: Change Your Life With Just One Word,” I’ve picked a word for the year as one that I would focus on. I encourage you to do the same. If you need help with the idea, get the book. I’ve found the practice to be helpful in my journey.
A few years ago, I was asked to write a Christmas song, a sort of ‘lullaby’ to be sung at Christmas services. Here’s what I came up with.
I noticed it, this morning.
Sunrise, I mean.
And I’m really glad.
As the sun decided to make another grand entrance this morning,
A pallet of color began to splash all over the horizon,
Almost as if God had opened a new package of colored pens,
Just for this occasion.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about my life from the perspective of what I’m glad for. Not what I’m ‘thankful’ for. That’s a different topic, for me. If I contemplate what I’m thankful for, all kinds of things come to mind. My family. My health. My life, ministry, home. Even my walk with God would fit into the category of what I’m thankful for.
But what I’m ‘glad’ of, or ‘glad for’ is a different thing for me.
