I wonder?
I do wonder, like most people, I suppose, about a lot of things.
But today, I wonder about how different things would be for me, if …

If I lived a truly grateful life?

What would it mean to the way I think, the way I act, the way I live,
if every morning, as my feet hit the cold floor of life,
I looked into the face of a loving God and said, “Thank you. I am grateful, today, for the life you have given me.”?

If I got up every morning, and took stock of all I have,
instead making my pitiful list of all I think I need,
How would it change me, I wonder?

For a certainty, it is true:
The Book says that “every good and perfect gift” comes from His bountiful hand.
A mind to reason, and strength, to stand.
The breath in the air.
The provision and care
He faithfully shares
With every living creature on earth,
(which oddly enough, includes even me.)

Like manna of old, morning by morning,
I enjoy his daily “provision” for my life.
His mercies, extended to me, come not because I have asked.
I find it amazing, really, that even on most days,
the days when I neglect
to pray, “Give us this day, our daily bread?”

He gives me my daily bread, anyway;
Whether I remember to ask Him, or not.
Whether I even take notice of Him, or not,
He is there.

How, I wonder, would things be different, if I intentionally took notice of Him?
If every morning, I specifically decided to notice God and His provision in my life?
I don’t wonder if it would be good, mind you.

Ps. 92:1 says. “It is good to give thanks to the Lord And to sing praises to (his) name …”

But, I do wonder. If I could somehow bring myself to raise my voice in gratitude
To the God of All Wonders every day, how would my life be changed?
If I followed the encouragement of the 147th psalm, to “Sing to the Lord with Thanksgiving …”
How would my heart, my life, my journey be different?

Because I am weak and feeble of faith, my need to confess the sin of ungratefulness
is substantial, for sure. How about you?

I am determined to confess and address that need for gratitude. And I’ll start by singing along with The Song Writer, in the 107th Psalm. He began his song by writing this lyric:

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
    His faithful love endures forever.”
